FEES

Distance Learning courses have generally have the same basic cost, registration and financial aid processes as other credit classes. Please note, there may be additional fees for Distance Learning Courses. For more detailed information, please see our Course Info page

IMPORTANT DATES

Distance Learning courses do not always follow the same schedule as face-to-face (f2f) courses.  View the following page for the important dates for our current and/or upcoming quarter: Important Distance Learning Dates

The 5 TYPES of SSCC DISTANCE LEARNING "ONLINE" courses

  1. SSCC online course- taught by SSCC faculty using Blackboard (a course management application) as their classroom platform. Course item number ends with section number ".70"
     
  2. SSCC online course - taught by SSCC faculty using their own website orthrough the Tech Ed site for online computer courses at www.ssccit.com. Course item number ends with section number ".70"
     
  3. SSCC online WAOL course - offered through the Washington Online Consortium (WAOL) - www.waol.org. WAOL (Washington Online) courses are a special type of course offered by South Seattle Community College.  WAOL course item numbers end with section numbers ".72 or .78"

    • Blackboard Tips of ONLINE Learning Try WAOL's Week Zero course! WAOL courses use a course management web application called "Blackboard"
       
    • WAOL courses follow a different quarter schedule from the other distance courses offered
       
    • WAOL has minimum hardware requirements to take a WAOL course: http://www.waol.org/getstarted/requirements.asp
       
    • WAOL courses require regular participation in a virtual classroom.  If you are unfamiliar with this concept, please take the time to view a brief online tutorial: http://www.waol.org/getstarted/weekZero.asp
       
  4. SSCC telecourse - taught by SSCC faculty where courses meet in-person for 4-6 courses and videos/dvd are used for instruction. Course item number ends with section number ".77"
     
  5. SSCC Math courses - 99% of the Math courses are taught by SSCC faculty using Academic Systems, which the students have access to in the Open Computer Lab and through a disk in their textbook. 

    There is one Math course, MAT 107, offered through WAOL during the year.     Course item number ends with section number ".70"

PLANNING your ONLINE classes (with our Distance Learning MY PLANNER tool)

Planning your class schedule

This website offers a Class Planning Tool to help compile all the information you will need to enroll (it does not officially enroll you)

  1. Go to the My PLANNER tool (this tool does not register anyone - it plans classes , only)
     
  2. Choose your class(es) (you can add and delete them as desired because this is a planner only -- it does not offiically register you)
     
  3. PRINT OUT the results of what you plan to take online with SSCC and then go through the registration process:
     
    • New Students (see Admissions): Take your 'printed planning page' to the REGISTRATION office to officially enroll
    • Returning Students : Take your 'printed planning page' to the REGISTRATION office to officially enroll or if you have your SID # and password -- you can go online to enroll!
